What to Say in Salah in First Tashahud (Testimony of faith)

In The first tashahud in salah which comes from two rakats we say:

“Attahiyyaatu lillaahi wassalawaatu, wattayyibaatu, assalaamu ‘alayka ‘ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu, assalaamu ‘alaynaa wa ‘alaa ‘ibaadillaahis-saaliheen. ‘Ash-hadu ‘an laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahu wa ‘ash-hadu ‘anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasooluhu”.

Tashahud in English means:

All greetings of humility are for Allah, and all prayers and goodness. Peace be upon you, O prophet, and the mercy of Allah and his blessings.

Peace be upon the righteous slaves of Allah and upon us. I bear witness that there is no worthy of worship but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is his slave and his Messenger.

What to Say in Salah When in the Last Tashahud

After performing all rakats, we say the earlier tashahud with an additional part which is:

“Allahumma Salli ’Alaa Muhammad Wa ’Alaa Ali Muhammad Kama Sallayta ’ala Ibrahim Wa ’ Alaa Ali Ibrahim.

Wabarik ‘Alaa Muhammad Wa ’Alaa Ali Muhammad.Kama Barakta ‘Alaa Ibrahim Wa ’Alaa Ali Ibrahim

Fil ‘Alamin innaka Hamidum-Majid.

اللهم صلِ على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما صليت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم، وبارك على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما باركت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم، إنك حميد مجيد.

O Allah, let your mercy come upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as you let it come upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim.

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as you blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed you are praiseworthy and glorious.”

The Taslim

At last, Muslims turn their head to the right and say: "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah," (Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you) and then to the left, repeating the same phrase to end Salah.

It is the last step we take to end salah with taslim while seating. We say “Assalamu alaikum Wa Rahmatullah السلام عليكم ورحمة الله”.

Taslim means “peace and the mercy of Allah be on you”. We say it twice while turning faces to the right and left sides.
